- Open Microsoft Word. Start a new document.
- Go to Ribbon> Design tongue. Then click on the Page color button and choose Fill Effects from the drop-down list.
- Click the Pattern tab to view the available design choices. For example, to make a typical grid paper in Word, you could choose the Small grid Where Large grid diagram. Then select the pattern tiles and see their name displayed in the box above the color picker menu.
- Use the default black and white foreground and background color. You can also choose a color for both to give the paper your own unique look.
- Click on Okay.
