LASALLE — The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs has launched a letter-writing campaign to show support for the veterans they care for at LaSalle and four other residences. The “Operation Rising Spirit” campaign encourages service organizations, schools, communities and individuals to write letters of appreciation and support to veterans at veterans homes across the state in LaSalle, Anna, Chicago , Manteno and Quincy. The program launched in 2020 and has already delivered hundreds of letters to residents who were unable to visit family and friends. To participate, grades can be sent directly to the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs or through the IDVA website. www2.Illinois.Gov/Veterans

“Hundreds of letters were sent to veterans at our five residences over the holiday season, bringing so much joy to homes,” said Director Terry Prince. “Operation Rising Spirit is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for organizations, schools, families and individuals to encourage our veterans.”
