Lorde’s latest email includes a bunch of her thoughts on the Rogue Notes app

We, the plebs, have received, no, been blessed through another email transmission from the fingertips of Lorde today, and this time, she unlocked her phone and dived into her Notes app to show us how things work in her brain. A real look behind the curtain here people.

Writing to us from an otherworldly place (read: New York City in the midst of it all), Lorde scrolled through her notes until late 2018, when she was writing down her thoughts and thoughts on what would turn into his next album. . She also shared a hot secret about working as a musician around this time: the two best apps for just about any bloody muso are Notes and Voice Memos.

“I was up late last night scrolling through the Notes folder on my iPhone,” she begins.

“Notes has become kind of a mythic zone for the modern songwriter, like with Voice Memos, and it’s true – we all write every fucking song using these two apps.

“My Notes app also works as a kind of interesting time capsule: I can see lists of groceries or Christmas presents that I needed to buy years ago, as well as in-depth thoughts on where I am. am and what I do as they begin to form.

“I took some screenshots last night because I thought you might be vaguely interested in them.”

Lorde, my sweet summer child, you have never been so correct. They to do interests me! They interest me a lot! I want nothing more than to crawl through your weird mind and rummage around to see what you are thinking about all hours of the day and night.

And so, here are some of the entries in Lorde’s Notes app between November 2018 and March 2019. A small sample, yes, but fascinating nonetheless.

Shortly before that, Lorde had withdrawn from social media altogether, leaving most of her life out of her music to become a bit of a mystery, save for emailing and messaging. her onion ring reviewing finsta – the only celebrity account worthy of following tbh. She recently hopped on her main Insta to start promoting her upcoming album, but leaves it largely untouched.

In early 2019, she started taking notes on the music she wanted to do, with many references to the sun.

“Start conceptualizing – again,” Lorde wrote in the email.

“That’s before any music was actually written… Maybe I had a song.”

OOP, ok baby.

Speaking of the sun (???) Lorde started jotting down ideas for a visual piece she wanted to do – which absolutely turned into a music video for her comeback single, Solar energy.

Just look at this planning and foresight.

She also pinned down something that she says she now believes “more deeply than ever”, and I think that probably should be her personal motto and mantra.

Finally and almost unbelievably, a full year before anyone even really panicked about the coronavirus pandemic, thoughts of antibodies were fluttering through Lorde’s head enough for her to notice in the middle of the night.

In the email, Lorde also blurted out that she was “on the set of some thing outside” that set off little bells of excitement in my brain, as well as long walks around. town, heading to the studio when she can (!), and wishing she could give us the whole album tomorrow (!!!) – I mean, I wouldn’t complain if she did.

So, after this slight taste of the inner workings of his mind through weird thoughts and phone scribbles, do I now want to read more? Do I need to know if she has a folder entirely dedicated to onion ring reviews? You bet I do.
