Apple iPhone users can scan documents into their Notes app. Here is a step by step guide.

The Apple iPhone or iPad has a number of features that can make your life easier. Within a set of these features, there is an option to keep your documents handy in one place. With the iPhone Notes app on iOS, you can scan any documents and keep them securely in the Notes app. It stores your typed notes and written or printed documents in the same app instead of using two separate apps for different purposes.

The Notes application allows users to scan documents and make necessary changes if needed, such as rotating, cropping or applying filters depending on the type of document, such as color filter or black filter and white. Once you’re done, it will give you the option to save the document as a PDF or image. You can store it in your phone memory or even online like iCloud Drive or Google Drive.

While the new Notes app technically scans documents, but it lacks OCR like other iOS document scanning apps. Scanning a business card only produces a cropped image of the card. Other apps, such as Finescanner and Scanbot, can recognize characters and let you edit the resulting text, but they require in-app purchases to access OCR features. However, Apple’s Notes app meets all basic scanning requirements, from note taking to images, web links, scanned documents, handwritten notes or even sketches. So, to use Apple’s Notes app, here is the step-by-step guide for you.

How to Scan Documents with the iPhone Notes App

Step 1:
You must first open a new or existing note.

2nd step:
Then tap on the camera icon and click on the “Scan documents” option.

Step 3:
You will need to place your document in the camera’s field of view to scan it.

Step 4:
Then you have to press the capture button. You can also use the auto capture option by placing your document in the viewfinder or use the shutter button and one of the volume buttons to capture the scan.

Step 5:
Once captured, you will have the option to adjust the corners of the scan by dragging them or making edits such as changing the filter, rotating and cropping.

Step 6:
Touch Keep Scanning to continue scanning more pages as needed.

Step 7:
Once you are done, finally hit the save button in the lower right corner and your file will be saved as a document in your Notes app.

Step 8:
You can annotate, annotate to PDF, print, copy and share scanned documents by tapping the share button in the upper right corner.
