A letter-writing campaign for veterans sponsored by the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is launching again this holiday season.

Operation Rising Spirit encourages service organizations, schools, communities, and individuals to write letters of appreciation and support to veterans living in veterans homes across the state in Quincy, Anna, LaSalle, Chicago and Manteno.

“Hundreds of letters were sent to veterans at our five residences over the holiday season, bringing so much joy to homes,” said Department Director Terry Prince. “Operation Rising Spirit is a wonderful volunteer opportunity for organizations, schools, families and individuals to encourage our veterans.”

To enter, scores can be sent directly to the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs, 833 S. Spring St., PO Box 19432, Springfield, IL 62794-9432. Notes can also be sent via the ministry’s website to bit.ly/3EKKhPO.

Operation Rising Spirit was launched in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic to support residents who were unable to visit family and friends.
