The template you need to write your podcast show description

0

A podcast description is like a book cover. This is what people read after the name of your show attracted them but before they decide to start listening. Just as an author would work on their book cover, podcasters also need to work on their podcast description.

A podcast description has three purposes:

  1. be explanatory
  2. be search friendly
  3. be succinct.

Here’s a three-sentence template for writing your podcast description that will accomplish each of these goals.

First Sentence: Start with a statement that your listeners already believe to be true.

It should be something they already know and care about.

  • “It’s difficult to reconcile a full-time job with passionate projects.
  • “Adopting a pet can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.”

Sentence two: TWhat all listeners can expect to hear each time they start playing your episode.

Share the frequency of the show, introduce the host (s), explain their credibility and share the format of the show.

  • “Every Tuesday, join Molly Beck, a longtime member of the side hustle generation, as she interviews guests who run their own businesses in addition to their daily work.”
  • “Bob Smith, Everyone’s Favorite Animal Rights Activist, shares his daily 5-minute info on what a pet owner can do to help their furry best friend thrive in their new home. “

Sentence 3: Who is this program for?

If a potential listener has read your description this far, they’re probably very interested, but you’ll want to convey that the show is for them by literally telling them, “This show is for you!” This is also an opportunity to use different keywords to describe the show, so if some listeners to your Texas politics podcasts type in “Austin Statehouse” and other “elected officials of the sud ”in the search bar of their podcast directory, your show appears for both.

  • “If you’ve got a side job, want to start an exciting project, or just want to hear great career advice, this podcast is for you. “
  • “Whether you want to learn more about #adoptdontshop, go through the administrative process of adopting an animal, or already have an adopted animal to worship, this podcast is for you.”

Let’s put it all together:

For the side hustle podcast example:

“It’s hard to balance a full-time job with passionate projects. Every Tuesday, join Molly Beck, a longtime member of the side-hustle generation, as she interviews guests who run their own businesses in addition to their daily work.. If you have a side business, want to start an exciting project, or just want to hear great career advice, this podcast is for you.

For the example podcast on animal adoption:

“Adopting a pet can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life. Everyone’s Favorite Animal Rights Activist Bob Smith shares his daily 5-minute ideas on what a pet owner can do to help their furry best friend thrive in their new home. Whether you want to learn more about #adoptdontshop, go through the administrative process of adopting a pet, or already have an adopted pet to love, this podcast is for you.

Now that you have your podcast description, you are ready to start your new podcast!
