Thomas Tuchel handed over £78m template to secure next Eden Hazard as Chelsea rue missed chance – Jake Stokes

Thomas Tuchel has been warned of Chelsea’s inability to be proactive in the transfer market.

Jurgen Klopp’s side, who signed Luis Diaz from Porto in the January window for just £37million, have enjoyed a superb rate of success signing players.

The 25-year-old winger falls precisely into said category and appears to have already made great strides in emulating Sadio Mane’s impact at Anfield.

So Daniel Childs spoke to Matt Addison, editor of sister site, live on Carefree Chelsea ‘Behind Enemy Lines’ show to discuss the impact Diaz could have in future seasons.

Addison began by detailing how the Colombia international was fast-tracked into Klopp’s side, having already played various roles in what has been a smooth transition.

“Luis Diaz has been really impressive so far,” he said. “He didn’t quite put together a full performance; there was a goal or a little moment sometimes where he did stuff.

“But, the signs are there that they have found another player who can come in and play a few more positions.

“I think when he arrived a lot of people thought he was just a left winger – we’ve seen him play in the middle before. He looks like every inch of a Liverpool player until here.”

The editor added reveling in Liverpool’s £78m recruitment strategy which signed both Diogo Jota and Diaz, highlighting Chelsea’s worrying inability to replace Eden Hazard.

“Jurgen Klopp made a key point – he said in the sense ‘he does these things naturally,'” Addison said, paraphrasing the German boss’ fruitful assessment of Diaz.

“It’s not like they told him – they haven’t had the time, they haven’t had the training sessions to instill in him the way Liverpool play.

“That’s how he is, and I think it’s a real testament to recruitment that they managed to find Jota, managed to find Diaz – when you think about how close Salah, Mane and Firmino were to their heyday, to find the next version of those without really needing an adjustment period, I think that’s a sign that they know exactly what they’re doing.”
