HBO Watchmen showrunner Damon Lindelof is rumored to be writing a new Star Wars movie for Lucasfilm, which he previously expressed interest in.
If the whispers around Buena Vista St. are to be believed, writer Damon Lindelof, best known for his work on Lost, Leftovers and HBO watchmen — could be next in line to tackle the star wars universe.
According to the pinnera persistent rumor over the past two months has been that Lindelof is working on a new star wars film for Lucasfilm. At present, however, no information regarding the plot of the supposed project is available. It’s also unclear if Lindelof has a co-writer or if there’s a director attached to the rumored film.
At the 2015 Disney film premiere tomorrowlandwhich Lindelof wrote the screenplay alongside Brad Bird, the former suggested he would be interested in doing a star wars movie, although it came with a caveat. “I would certainly never say never, but right now, let it be tomorrowland succeed or fail, I step into a space where I try to do something more original,” Lindelof said. Nevertheless, Lindelof later said Fandom that he would like to work on a star wars or Marvel project in the future. “And at some point, but certainly not in the immediate future, I feel like I would like to do something in the star wars universe,” he said. “Maybe in a decade I won’t be blamed for ruining it. That would be a hoot.”

A number of other unspecified film projects set in the star wars the universe is said to be still in the making, like a new trilogy of Star Wars: The Last Jedi writer-director Rian Johnson. Additionally, Marvel boss Kevin Feige is developing a star wars film to be written by Michael Waldron, while Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is confirmed to direct a star wars film which he also co-wrote with Krysty Wilson-Cairns.
Lindelof has recently been widely praised for his work on watchmen, an HBO limited series that serves as the sequel to DC’s seminal comic book of the same name by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. In 2020, HBO watchmen won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Limited Series. Additionally, Lindelof and co-writer Cord Jefferson won the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie or Dramatic Special for their work on watchmenThe sixth episode of “This Extraordinary Being”. In 2005, ABC Lost — which Lindelof co-created with JJ Abrams and Jeffrey Lieber — won Outstanding Drama Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards.
Lindelof’s other television writing credits include Nash Bridges, Crossing Jordan and Phineas and Ferb. In addition to tomorrowlandhe also co-wrote films such as Cowboys and Aliens, Prometheus, Star Trek Into Darkness and World War Z. Most recently, he ran the writer’s room for Peacock’s Mrs Davis with Tara Hernández.
